Quilt 21Quilt 21s

Roman tiles, lap size
This is another project from a five-day retreat at Bad Waldsee, this one was created on the 2006 one. I wanted to make a quilt for the lady who organizes the stonemasonry workshops I go to each year. She retired from her job in 2007, and this quilt is meant as a thank-you for her wonderful organization of these retreats each year. She always claimed that stone is not really all that tough and hard... This quilt was made with lots of stone-patterned fabric - to prove her right! The inspiration for the pattern came from one of our trips to Greece - some of the tiled floors in the ruins of old Roman houses look just like this. The quilt folds into itself as a "quillow" (quilt in a pillow). The image on the right shows the quilt folded into the pillowcase. Machine-sewn and machine-quilted.
Date: November 2006 to August 2007
Size: 160 x 160 cm / 63" x 63"
