Quilt 9

Interlocked Squares, lap size quillow
This is a quilt I made together with my mom for her sister Heidi for Christmas '96. Heidi's husband died of cancer in his early fifties in '96, so we wanted to give her something special. The pattern is from "Quilts, Quilts, and More Quilts", and I had finally mastered strip piecing! I machine-pieced the quilt and hand-quilted about half, then passed it on to my mother and left for our annual November vacation.

When I returned, mom was a nervous wreck. She had only quilted pillows before and had had no idea how much work a lap-size quilt is. But she got it done! She worked out a very nice pattern for the outer border, and joined it with her own little heart design in the middle. She swore she'd never ever quilt a quilt again, but I'm very proud of her accomplishment! Below is a picture of the quillow pillow, by the way.
