Quilt 6

Amish quilt in purples, dark blue, and white, twin size
This one I made for my friend Sieglinde for her 40th birthday. She quilts as well, but had no idea I was making her one. In true quilting fashion, I was only half-done with the quilting when her birthday snuck up on me... She got the quilt for the evening of her party, complete with basting threads and needles, then I took it back to finish it. It's machine-pieced and hand-quilted.

I had just discovered Amish quilts and loved their radiant colors. I found some cotton chintz in various colors in a chain store in the area, and went wild buying purples, blues, whites, reds, greens, pinks, and black. I used purple, blue, lavender, and white on this quilt, and it really radiates in the light. I found the pattern in an old quilting book, which called this particular quilt a "Handyman's quilt", intended for the hired hand on an Amish farm.
